Many of us love our morning cup of coffee and many can’t function without it. Caffeine is a natural stimulant and can have several benefits:
Increased performance
Caffeine is shown to stimulate an increase in adrenaline; a hormone used to prepare us for exercise. It also acts as a pain depressant, meaning after a cup of coffee ( 2-3 according to scientists at the University of Illinois) you may be able to go harder for longer as it reduces your perception of muscle pain.
Improves concentration
Caffeine promotes increased activity in the area of the brain used for planning, attention and concentration. It can give you a mental boost for 45minutes, according to an Australian study.
Ups your energy
As a natural stimulant, coffee can help overcome feelings of fatigue and tiredness. However I would not recommend a cup over a good nights sleep!
11% of Vitamin B2 per cup
This vitamin helps the body metabolise fats and proteins as well as successfully convert carbohydrates into glucose to be used as energy.
Can promote a slight increase in metabolic rate if drunk before exercise.
Caffeine promotes the breakdown of fat for fuel and it has been shown by several studies that caffeine can boost the metabolic rate by 3-11%.
