Once reserved for hippies and people that lived in trees, greens powders are now widely available; even Tesco’s have one now (they have it all don’t they!)
So what is a greens powder/ greens drink/ super greens shake?
It normally consists of freeze-dried,
- green vegetables
- digestive enzymes
- metabolic ingredients
What’s the point in it?
Greens powders were created so that people like you and me can add more greens to our diet. The appeal and practicality of chomping down 3 bowls of kale per day can be a daunting one. Remember the NHS tell us 5 fruit and veg per day, whereas the Japanese government recommend 13 veg plus 4 fruit 🤷♀️.
If we assume that the sweet spot is between the two, can any of us honestly say that we’re having 8 or 9 portions of fruit and veg per day?

Now, the idea of greens powders is brilliant.
Pop a scoop in a glass, add water and hey presto, your system is flooded with digestive enzymes, wheatgrass, spirulina and other wonderful things.
They all taste AWFUL!
In fact, if you close your eyes as you drink one, you can visualise yourself as a Friesian cow working at the Yeo Valley yoghurt factory in Somerset, eating 20 kilos of grass per day and the odd stinging nettle.
Trust me, if you have never tried a greens powder, they can be gag- tastic.

Lean Greens – A Review
I have definitely seen powders with more ingredients, this has a total of 20 ish, and I have tried some with 30+, but they taste like a hedgerow.
This product includes alfalfa, spirulina, broccoli, digestive enzymes etc. etc. etc.
These cheeky chappies have worked hard on flavour. By adding only 20 ingredients and focusing on taste they have got the balance right, they have added a little natural stevia to give it a sweetness that takes off the harsh etc. of pond sludge and pigeon feed.
This is a product that ideally you would have first thing in the morning, before anything else. I have partnered this with Symprove probiotic (a review for another time), and after a week you do 100% feel less bloated, lighter, and your gut will settle. You also get used to the natural energy that this provides compared to having a coffee every morning.
Give it a go? But if you are using this, do it right. Have it on an empty gut, first thing in the morning before anything else.
