What a week it has been.
The last-minute announcement of tier 4 and the new rules about Christmas day effectively being cancelled as per our plans has been a tough one to swallow.
You would be forgiven for eating a few extra mince pies or drinking a couple more ports.
For sure, the extra stress, increase in beige foods and drink will lead to inflammation. That hot, sweaty feeling you get through your body. The inflamed swollen belly and achy joints are all part of the deal.
But what’s the number one supplement to help reduce inflammation over the festive period and beyond?
We recommend omega three fish oils, here’s why …
Fish oil supplements contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are vital to good health.
They can decrease the inflammation associated with diabetes, heart disease, cancer and many other conditions. Two especially beneficial types of omega-3s are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
In particular, DHA has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects that reduce cytokine levels and promote gut health.
In one study, levels of the inflammation marker IL-6 were 32% lower in people who took 2 grams of DHA, compared to a control group.
In another study, DHA supplements significantly reduced the inflammatory markers TNF alpha and IL-6 after vigorous exercise.
If you aren’t already, you should be supplementing daily with a good quality fish oil.
